A New Jersey small town lawyer known as Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti) doubles up as a coach for a high-school team that performs dismally. Basically, he is struggling in both his finances and career which get the best of him in Win Win. He rarely receives clients so to cover the cash deficit; he decides to engage in fraud.
One of Mike’s few clients, Leo, is too old look after himself but he is opposed to the idea of leaving his cozy house be taken to an elderly home. Mike decides to engage in fraud by offering his services to become Leo’s guardian. He promises the judge that he will take care of Leo while in his client’s house but instead enrolls the old man to a nursing facility, all the while receiving the 1500 dollars on a monthly basis for Leo’s upkeep. Apparently Mike thinks to himself, Leo’s family cannot be located or traced, and the upkeep money will certainly help him since he is struggling financially, so there’s no issue whatsoever.
One day, a blonde, tattooed teenager appears on the doorstep of Leo’s house. The teenager Kyle claims to be Leo’s grandson. Apparently, Leo and Kyle have never net before. To cover his tracks, Mike tells Kyle that his grandfather lives in the nursing home after a court order was passed.
Kyle’s behavior is that of a wild card because of his poor upbringing, and Mike’s wife (Jackie) shows her displeasure. One day when Kyle accompanied Mike to training, Kyle’s talent in wrestling is identified.
This forms the reason why Mike opts to keep Kyle around because Kyle can improve his wrestling team which is pathetic. Mike enrolls him in school, and immediately he fits in well. The past dismal results are transformed to wins much to Mike’s delight.
Kyle seems to be God sent to Mike but all over sudden, Kyle’s mom appears from the blue. She is a drug addict from rehabilitation in Ohio. She threatens to scatter the significant progress of her son to college also claims the monthly check for Leo’s upkeep currently received by Mike.
It is a pleasant film that offers wit, intellect and excellent performances from the actors involved. Win Win will make a person smile because it’s a feel good type of film.
